Actor Park Jung-min talked about his relationship with Kang Dong-won in the movie ‘The War, the Orphan’.
On the afternoon of the 14th, actor Park Jung-min had an interview for the Netflix movie ‘The War, the Orphan’ at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and met with Donga.com to talk about the movie.
When asked about his thoughts on the release of ‘The War, the Orphan’, Park Jung-min said, “I had those thoughts when I first saw it at the Busan International Film Festival. I thought, ‘This is the kind of movie I filmed.’. I personally liked it. I think it was good that they filmed it and released it. I thought the director had everything planned out. There were a few moments where I whined, I‘m sorry.“
About how he came to appear in ‘전,란’, Park Jung-min recalled, ”While filming the short film ‘일장춘몽’, I was recording the aftermath of ‘Decision to Break Up’, and they asked me if I had any thoughts on doing a short film, so I said I would do it without even looking at the script. As soon as ‘일장춘몽’ ended, they asked if I wanted to read the script for a work called ‘전,란’, so I said I would do it. I had a reasonable suspicion that they might have tested my historical drama visuals through ‘일장춘몽’. They gave me a gift on the last day of filming ‘일장춘몽’, so I thought maybe that was why.“
He continued, ”Actually, I waited for about 10 months after I was cast. While I was waiting, the production company told me they were talking to senior Kang Dong-won, so I said, ‘Then I’ll keep waiting,’ and decided to participate.“
Park Jung-min said about appearing in ‘The War, Ran’ with Kang Dong-won, ”When I heard that Dong-won was cast, I thought it was an interesting casting. I‘ve always wanted to do a project like Kang Dong-won, and I’ve been a fan. I liked what people around me said, so I wanted to meet him, and I‘m glad he said he’d do it. He asked, ‘You don’t hate me for being cast, do you?‘ That’s how our relationship began.“
Regarding the viewers‘ reactions to ‘The War, Ran’, regarding the mention of Park Jung-min and Kang Dong-won’s romance, ”I think it‘s fortunate that when one project comes out, many stories come out of that project. I didn’t necessarily film it with the intention of the audience seeing it as a romance, but it‘s not like I didn’t know about it while filming. Sometimes, I felt a strange feeling. At times like that, I controlled the level and avoided acting that could be misunderstood due to overinterpretation. In that part, I joked around with senior (Kang Dong-won),” he said, drawing attention.
When asked which scene in particular made him feel a different atmosphere, Park Jung-min explained, “It was the scene where I was told to stay still when I was caught again, but the atmosphere was strange. All the staff and the director felt the atmosphere. It was a feeling I had never seen before. I also felt strange. I even joked with my senior, saying, ‘It feels strange.’”
Meanwhile, ‘전,란’, released on the 11th, is a movie that depicts the story of Jong-ryeo (Park Jung-min), the only son of the best military family in Joseon who grew up together during the chaotic era of the Imjin War, and his servant Cheon-yeong (Kang Dong-won), who meet again after becoming enemies as King Seonjo‘s (Cha Seung-won) closest military officer and volunteer army member.
Park Jung-min plays Jong-ryeo, the only son of the best military family in Joseon. He develops a friendship that transcends social status with his servant Cheon-yeong, with whom he trained martial arts since childhood, but he is overcome with a sense of betrayal when he hears that Cheon-yeong murdered his entire family and vows revenge on him.
