The group SEVENTEEN is garnering hot attention from local fans with their 4th Japanese single.
According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan on the 10th, SEVENTEEN‘s 4th single ‘Expiration Date’ (Shohikigen·消費期限) released locally has surpassed 500,000 copies in cumulative shipments as of November, receiving a gold disc ‘Double Platinum’ certification. The Recording Industry Association of Japan gives out gold disc certifications based on cumulative album shipments every month, including Gold (100,000 copies or more), Platinum (250,000 copies or more), and Double Platinum (500,000 copies).
With this, SEVENTEEN now has their 18th gold disc-certified album. In particular, they have earned four certifications this year alone, following their best album ‘17 Is Right Here’ (double platinum), special unit Jeonghan X Wonwoo’s first single ‘This Man’ (gold), and their 12th mini album ‘Spill the Feels’ (platinum), proving their high status in Japan.
‘Expiration Date’ went straight to #1 on the Japanese Oricon ‘Daily Album Ranking’ right after its release on the 27th of last month, and held the top spot for a total of 9 days. They also swept the top spot on Oricon‘s ‘Weekly Single Ranking’ (dated December 9 / aggregate period November 25 - December 1) and ‘Weekly Combined Single Ranking’, as well as Billboard Japan’s ‘Top Single Sales’ (dated December 4 / aggregate period November 25 - December 1).
Seventeen is continuing their Japanese dome tour amidst sold-out crowds. Following the performance at Vantelin Dome Nagoya late last month, the performances held at Tokyo Dome on the 4th and 5th received favorable reviews from local media, such as “Filled the venue with energy” (Tokyo Chunichi Sports) and “Proved overwhelming popularity” (Nikkan Sports). The performances will also be held at Kyocera Dome Osaka (12th, 14th-15th) and PayPay Dome Fukuoka (19th, 21st-22nd).
Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN‘s 12th mini album ‘SPILL THE FEELS’ was recently named on Billboard’s ‘The 25 Best K-Pop Albums of 2024: Staff Picks’. Billboard took notice of their wide musical spectrum, praising them, saying, “From captivating disco (‘Rain’) to addictive Miami bass (‘Eyes on you’), ‘SPILL THE FEELS’ still shows SEVENTEEN‘s endless ambition.”
