BBGIRLS members Minyoung, Eunji, and Yuna, the main characters of the ‘reverse run myth’, looked back and said, “The past 9 years have been like a roller coaster”.
Before they achieved reverse run popularity with their hit song ‘Rollin’, their group activities were not always smooth. After joining Brave Girls in 2016, the team that started with 7 members became a trio in the midst of repeated popularity and crisis, and in 2023, they even changed their team name and ‘re-debuted’.
They went through countless ups and downs and had a lot of mental anguish, but they laughed and said, “We were able to learn how to overcome as we went through many things.” These three, who are releasing their second single ‘Love To’, their first album as a trio after Yoojung left the group in April of last year after eight years together, said, “We understand her (Yoojung‘s) choice.”
“It’s hard to talk about this in front of all the members, but since we‘re all in our 30s, we still had our (realistic) concerns even after ‘Rollin’’ did well. That‘s why I wasn’t that surprised when (Yoojung) announced her intention to leave. Of course, we were upset as a team. We wanted her to stay with us a little longer. But as humans, we couldn‘t help but understand. We decided to cheer her on because her decision is the most important.”
After that, the three of them said, as they always do, “Maybe something better will happen to us”, and they pulled themselves together. The members explained, “We felt firsthand that no matter how shocking something may seem, it becomes nothing once it passes as we went from seven to five, then to four, and then to three.”
“There are so many groups that disappear from this fiercely competitive K-pop scene without a single hit song. But we’re lucky that we have a hit song, and whenever we go and see the audience singing ‘Rollin’‘ with us, we gain the confidence that ’we can do more.‘ We’re the oldest girl group currently active. We like our position as ‘Unnie Idols.’ Even after we get married and have kids, we want to continue promoting in a group.”
Having once again reflected on their determination for the team and their love for the stage, they expressed their “gratitude toward fans who have waited for a long time and excitement about a new start” in their new song ‘Love To.’
“‘Love To’ is about the beginning of love. For us, it‘s a song that goes beyond a love song and makes you feel the excitement of a new beginning. There’s a line in the lyrics that says, ‘Let‘s fill it with only good stories.’. That’s what we want to say to ourselves and our fans. For ‘BVG Girls’, I think now is the true starting point. We won‘t stop. We want to be a group that gives hope to many juniors who are doing this work, saying, ‘We can continue to be a girl group like that.’
