The music video has become another ‘work of art’. Directed by the director of ‘Goblin’, filming period was 1 year, ‘007 Spy Action’… .

Now, even music videos have to stand out to survive. Veteran singers such as Baek Ji-young, Kim Dong-ryul, and Park Jin-young are creating a buzz by releasing experimental music videos. Both inside and outside of K-pop, music videos are being viewed as another ‘work’ that reveals the singer‘s individuality beyond a means of delivering music, and related attempts are continuing.

According to a Sports Donga interview on the 12th, Baek Ji-young entrusted the music video for the title song of her new album, which will be released on December 2, to director Lee Eung-bok, the star of the ‘K-drama craze’. This director is known as a ‘home theater hitmaker’ for global hits such as KBS 2TV’s ‘Descendants of the Sun’, tvN‘s ‘Goblin’, ‘Mr. Sunshine’, and Netflix’s ‘Sweet Home’ series.

In particular, this is the first time that this director has directed a music video, and the interest is gathering not only from K-pop fandom but also from domestic and foreign drama fans. It is known that Baek Ji-young, who is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her debut this year, contacted this director while preparing her commemorative album and decided to release a differentiated music video. Baek Ji-young also sang the OST ‘See You Again’ of ‘Mr. Sunshine’, which is also directed by this director.

Meanwhile, Kim Dong-ryul garnered attention from fans for fully capturing the four seasons in his new song ‘Walk’, released on the 27th of last month. For a music video that is usually filmed in a few days, he took an unprecedented amount of time, taking a whole year to complete it, like a short film.

Kim Dong-ryul has been personally pushing forward with the project since the fall of last year with director Kim Sun-hyeok, who created the previous ‘Reply’ music video, with the belief that “the results of something made after a long time are different.” Actors Kim Moo-yeol and Lee Young-ah, who played the main characters, agreed with his convictions and vividly depicted the changes of seasons, such as winter snowfields and autumn foliage, on the screen.

Park Jin-young even released a ‘super luxurious reaction’ video for the music video, which is reminiscent of a spy action movie. On the 4th, he unveiled a music video of a spy story starring actors Cha Joo-young and Lee Yi-kyung, with the background of his new song ‘Easy Lover’. Cha Joo-young‘s splendid ‘bare body action’ and the car explosion scene are gaining popularity for their extraordinary scale.

Not stopping there, Park Jin-young also revealed the process of watching the video with top stars such as actors Lee Byung-hun, Cha Tae-hyun, and Kim Ha-neul on his YouTube channel. Lee Byung Hun’s playful remark to Park Jin Young, “I think you made a good choice to become a musician,” while criticizing his acting, drew fresh laughter and quickly surpassed 350,000 views.
