Yoo Yeon-seok and Chae Soo-bin, a married couple, sticky and deadly atmosphere [Photoshoot]
Actors Yoo Yeon-seok and Chae Soo-bin have released a pictorial together. The two, who acted as a show window couple in the MBC drama ‘The Phone Call You Just Got’, created a tense moment in the dark evening, in a deadly atmosphere. However, unlike their serious and charismatic appearance in front of the camera, in reality, they showed sibling chemistry that was closer to a romantic comedy, creating a cheerful atmosphere.
Regarding his thoughts on meeting a couple who were worse than others and had no emotional exchanges in the drama, Yoo Yeon-seok said, “The romance gets darker as the drama goes on. I received this script around the time I finished filming my previous work, ‘A Good Day’, and since I read the script while playing a psychopath, I ended up focusing on the thriller aspect of it. It was only after meeting the production team that I was able to properly grasp the romantic elements. It is an attractive piece because it is neither a simple thriller nor a romance, but a mixture of two elements.”
When asked about the meaning this piece holds for each of them, Yoo Yeon-seok mentioned another change. He said, “I intentionally try to choose characters that are different from my previous works. If I played a good character, then I will try playing someone evil and cold-hearted, or someone in a completely different profession. I want the viewers to keep wondering what will happen next. I also like the response, “Why is Yoo Yeon-seok playing this kind of character again?” I think that’s how I’ve thought about acting since my debut.”
Chae Soo-bin said, “There were times when I was acting because it was fun and I liked it, but then I suddenly felt scared of acting as if I had hit a wall. I got scared because I started seeing all sorts of criteria, including viewer ratings. The reason why ‘The Call You Just Dialed’ feels more special is because I was able to focus without any room for such worries during the preparation process. “It made me realize that focusing on the task at hand is the right answer now,” he said.
Lastly, when asked about the drama that caused the biggest wave in their lives since they began acting, Yoo Yeon-seok said, “As soon as I heard the question, ‘Reply 1994’ came to mind. It was a drama that imprinted Yoo Yeon-seok as an actor in the public’s mind, while also tying up nearly 10 years of obscurity. There’s a scene where Chilbong-yi throws the winning ball to Na-jeong-yi, who came to cheer for him for the first time at a baseball game he’s playing in. That scene remains vivid in my mind like a still cut.”
Chae Soo-bin said, “For me, it’s the scene in ’Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People’ where I hang high on a pole and yell at Gil-dong-yi. Playing a character is my job as an actor, but sometimes I reminisce as if I really lived that character‘s life. That’s how I feel when I recall that scene,“ he said.
