Myung Se-bin: “Variety shows are hard, but if you like ‘Sebin’s mild flavor‘, I’ll work hard.”
Myung Se-bin, who is currently appearing on ‘Because I’m Solo‘, said, “I’m grateful that people like it because I showed more of the ‘bad Se-bin’ side.”
Myung Se-bin is drawing attention from viewers by shedding her mysteriousness and showing off her unexpected charm in the SBS Plus and E-Channel jointly produced variety show ‘Because I’m Solo‘, which first aired on October 29. Unlike her sophisticated and innocent image, her natural bare face and honest and candid appearance brought freshness to the living room.
Myung Se-bin said during the production conference for ‘I’m Single’ that she wanted to ‘open up to viewers, and it‘s definitely become more comfortable now. ‘In ‘Princess Bin’, I showed more of my ‘bad Se-bin’ appearance. I think I achieved my goal because people liked it.”
She continued, “I was worried because it was the first time I showed my ‘bare face’ on broadcast.”In the past, I looked refreshing and pretty even when I woke up, but these days, I can’t find that face. (Laughs) My hair is also a mess. “I was moved by my new sister-in-law‘s outburst (?), but I’m satisfied because she said it was funny,” she added.
Myung Se-bin, who was afraid because it was her first time appearing on a regular variety show, said, “I wondered if there was anything I, an ordinary person, could show on a variety show. However, I thought that if I overcame my fear and went on a variety show, I would be closer to the viewers and feel more comfortable, so I gained courage. I think it was a really good thing,” she said, expressing her gratitude. In particular, Myung Se-bin said, “After the broadcast, I thought to myself, ‘My humor is getting through,’ while reading many comments,” and added, “‘Because I’m single,‘ I felt the desire to challenge myself with things I had not experienced before. Variety shows are difficult, but if you still want my mild flavor, I will work hard (in the future as well).”
My current status as a florist was also revealed for the first time, which became a hot topic. Regarding this, Myung Se-bin shared a behind-the-scenes story, saying, “In the video, it looked like I was just carrying flowers, but there was a lot of water inside, and there was a lot of hardship on site.” “However, after overcoming that hardship, I gain strength from the people who are happy when they see the beautifully decorated flowers. If you don’t do it consistently, your senses will harden, so I will continue to work (as a florist) in the future,” she emphasized.
What kind of spouse does single Myung Se-bin want to marry? “I want to meet someone who shares the same religion (Christian) and who I can communicate well with. In fact, I recently had a fluttering heart for about 3 seconds,” she said cheerfully.
Regarding the chemistry of the ‘Solo Sisters’ who work together, she said, “‘The cast of ‘Because I’m Solo’ not only work hard at their jobs, but also have had difficult times, so they really supported each other from the beginning. That‘s why the atmosphere was really good from the beginning”, showing off their strong teamwork.
In addition, Myung Se-bin will reveal her camping trip to Yangyang, Gangwon-do in the 6th episode of ‘Because I’m Solo’, which is scheduled to air on Tuesday, December 3. Myung Se-bin said, ”It felt like someone was trapping me in Yangyang and systematically drugging me, just like in the movie ‘The Truman Show,’“ raising curiosity about the original broadcast.
Lastly, he shared his bucket list, saying, ”The end of 2024 is approaching, and I‘m going to throw myself into a fancy dinner,“ raising expectations about whether he will show this through ’Because I‘m Solo’ in the future.
● Below is a Q&A with Myung Se-bin
Q: ‘Because I’m Solo‘ is a hot topic for revealing your solo life for the first time. What made you decide to appear on the show after you were first contacted?
- I was worried that I might have something to show since I’m so ordinary. However, I thought that if I broke my fear and went on a variety show, I would be closer to the viewers and feel more comfortable, and I would be more free when acting, so I gathered my courage.
Q: After you first revealed your ‘real daily life’ in ‘Because I‘m Solo’, what were the reactions of those around you? What were your thoughts? You said at the beginning that there were some parts that you were worried about, but do you think it was portrayed well?
- Revealing your bare face was something that worried me. In the past, I didn’t have any swelling and I looked refreshing and pretty when I woke up, but I rarely see that face these days and my hair is a mess. After my first broadcast, people around me said my expression was real. (Laughs) I‘m satisfied because they said that they cried and burst out laughing with the new sister-in-law and had fun.
Q: After appearing on ‘Because I’m Solo’, the viewers‘ reactions were hot for your pure and innocent appearance. Were there any memorable comments and why?
- There were so many comments and cheers, and I thought, ‘My humor is getting through‘.
Q: You talked about the burden of your ‘Princess Course’ image, but I think you definitely broke it through this broadcast. Please tell us what you think. Also, at the production conference, you said you wanted to “be popular” with the viewers, do you think you achieved that goal?- I did, hahaha. I think I should live well from now on because they viewed me favorably. And I did feel comfortable. I showed more of my ‘Bad Se-bin’ image in ‘Princess Bin’, and I think I achieved my goal because they liked it a lot.
Q: Your appearance as a florist while working as an actress was revealed, which caused a fresh response. You received a lot of support for the sight of you arranging flowers with your delicate wrists. I wonder if there is a special reason why you maintain your florist career even though it seems quite difficult.
- Florists working in the field have a really hard time. In the video, they only seem to carry and move flowers, but they are also filled with water. There are many places outside where there are only bumpy roads that you can’t use carts. Thinking about people who decorate beautifully and spend happy times there gives me strength and makes me feel good. (Flower arrangement) is a skill that I have. If I don‘t do it consistently, my hands get stiff and my senses get worse. I want to keep doing it.
Q: You revealed your desire for marriage on TV. Do you have an ideal type? Have you had a recent experience where you were excited?- I think it would be good if you had the same religion (Christian) and could communicate well. I think I had a very brief (thrilling) moment, about 3 seconds.
Q: Is there anything you wanted to show as a filming item but regret not being able to do it this season?
- I also saw myself on screen and realized that I looked like that. I want to try things I haven’t experienced before. I think I want to challenge myself more.
Q: Through ‘Because I’m Solo‘, many people got to know the new charm of actress Myung Se-bin. Have you received any offers for other variety shows? Has your interest in variety shows grown?
- Nothing has been decided yet. Variety shows seem really difficult. But if you want my mild flavor, I’ll try my best. I also want to try traveling. I think traveling is a series of challenges.
Q: MCs Shin Dong-yup and Hwang Jung-eum, I feel like your chemistry with the solo girls is getting better. Do you have any stories from company dinners or private events?
- Shin Dong-yup is such a veteran that I just watch him from the studio. Hwang Jung-eum is a first-time host, and I‘m a beginner at observational variety shows. The other cast members are all working hard and have been through hard times, so we’ve been cheering each other on from the beginning. That‘s probably why the filming set had such a great atmosphere from the beginning.
Q: In the 6th episode, you went camping in Yangyang, a place of escape. Could you please tell us some of the highlights?- Just like in the movie ‘The Truman Show’, it felt like someone had trapped me in Yangyang and was systematically drugging me.
