‘Trunk’ Gong Yoo “Independent love♥ orientation rather than possession, marriage is a choice” [DA:Interview③]
Actor Gong Yoo confessed that he had time to look back on himself through ‘Trunk’.
In an interview with Netflix‘s ‘Trunk’ held at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 5th, Gong Yoo confessed, “‘I reconfirmed my values of love while with Trunk. I felt that I am a person who does not like being possessed by someone.”.
He said, “I don’t think I‘ve ever been possessive as if I loved someone. Because I am that kind of person, I expect the other person to see me that way. I guess it can’t be helped. In the end, isn‘t it a journey to find the right person?”I don’t think we necessarily have to do everything together. Can‘t we each do our own thing comfortably even in the same space? He revealed his thoughts, saying, “I don’t want to force my hobby on others just because I like fishing.” He also admitted, “There is no right answer in love, but the kind of relationship I’m aiming for is a mature relationship where we have independence rather than a possessive love. I think that kind of relationship might be a good one. It’s ideal, but the reality is that sometimes it doesn’t work out when you try to think that way.” Regarding the “temporary marriage” system, which is the subject of “Trunk,” he said, “If it were actually a reality, I think I would be concerned. It’s not easy. I can’t say it’s too good, but there are definitely points that I’m concerned about,” and asked the reporter what he thought about it. Regarding “marriage,” he said, “I think it’s a choice. It’s not something you have to do, nor is it something you don’t have to do. Marriage is an individual’s freedom and choice,“ he said.
Meanwhile, ‘Trunk’, based on the novel of the same name by author Kim Ryeo-ryeong, is a six-part mystery melodrama that depicts a secret marriage service that begins to come to light due to a trunk floating on the lakeside and the strange marriage story of the man and woman inside it. It is a work that was created by director Kim Kyu-tae, who directed the dramas [Our Blues] and [It‘s Okay, That’s Love], and writer Park Eun-young, who wrote [Hwarang], and was released on Netflix on the 29th of last month.
