The dating bet ended in Joo Ji-hoon‘s victory.
In episode 6 of the tvN weekend drama ‘Love on a Single-Log Bridge’ (directed by Park Joon-hwa, Bae Hee-young, written by Lim Ye-jin) that aired on the 8th, Yoon Ji-won (played by Jung Yu-mi) suffered from severe aftereffects from her kiss with Seok Ji-won (played by Joo Ji-hoon). The next morning, Yoon Ji-won glared at Seok Ji-won in anger, saying, “Was there anyone who came to my room last night?” as he did not remember the kiss the night before.
However, Yoon Ji-won’s gaze was still on Seok Ji-won‘s lips, and whenever their eyes met, she would unconsciously avoid eye contact, and the aftereffects were severe, such as catching a cold from the kiss that day. On the other hand, Seok Ji-won sensed something strange in Yoon Ji-won’s behavior of avoiding his eyes as if it were an extraneous matter. When Yoon Ji-won repeatedly said, “Crazy lilacs never bloom,” he responded, “It‘s not over until it’s over. I have to see it through to the end to find out whether I‘m going to step down as chairman or whether you’re going to date me.”
Meanwhile, Yoon Ji-won went to a training session for the Seoul special admissions in place of Lee Jae-gyu (Kim Hee-chang), the head of the creative sports department. Seok Ji-won, who was on his way home from work, picked up Yoon Ji-won and Gong Moon-soo (Lee Si-woo), who had missed the bus to Seoul, and accompanied them. He took great care of Yoon Ji-won, who had caught a cold, by turning on the heater and slowing down the speed so that she could take her medicine easily, without realizing that he was the cause of her cold.
On this day in particular, Cha Ji-hye (Kim Ye-won) exploded with jealousy. When Seok Ji-won said to Yoon Ji-won, “Let‘s go together when the time is right,” she hung up on Seok Ji-won’s call that Yoon Ji-won had received while she was away to prevent this. Finally, Cha Ji-hye, who was flustered, hid Yoon Ji-won‘s phone in her bag to avoid being caught, and just like 18 years ago when she blocked Seok Ji-won’s contacts, Seok Ji-won and Yoon Ji-won once again had their differences due to Cha Ji-hye‘s scheme. At the same time, Seok Ji-won’s expression darkened as he could not reach Yoon Ji-won like in the past.
In the meantime, Gong Moon-soo confessed his feelings for Yoon Ji-won. Gong Moon-soo confessed, “Can you believe that I endured that time thanks to you, teacher? I‘m glad you were the one who knew my sadness. I knew the moment I saw you again. That I missed you for a long time,” but Yoon Ji-won rejected him. Even at the moment of rejection, Gong Moon-soo said to Yoon Ji-won, “I think I saw your feelings that you don’t know yet,” mentioning that Yoon Ji-won‘s feelings were already for Seok Ji-won, her “first love of love and hate.” Yoon Ji-won also fell into thought as she recalled the moment she reunited with Seok Ji-won after 18 years at Gong Moon-soo’s words, “The moment we saw each other again.”
Furthermore, the “Lilac Love Bet” between the two at the end of the play reached a new turning point. Yoon Ji-won said, “You suddenly showed up after 18 years, barged into my house without permission, and kept staring at me. When you make a worthless bet on flowers, there‘s usually a reason. Why did you do that? Why do you want to date me?” She complained to Seok Ji-won, who shook her heart without mercy and who she could no longer ignore or deny. However, Seok Ji-won coldly rebuked her, saying, “I was going to dump you. You were so cruel,” out of hurt and childish thoughts of feeling abandoned by Yoon Ji-won.
In the end, Yoon Ji-won said, “Why did you do that to me that night? I hate you so much that I want to throw you away, but why on that day! Why are you looking at me like that?” she said, pouring out her feelings that had wavered for a moment after her kiss with Seok Ji-won. However, Yoon Ji-won, who noticed Seok Ji-won with an unusual expression, slowly raised her head following his gaze, and there, purple flowers were in full bloom on the withered lilac tree.
More than anything, Seok Ji-won, who was reminded of his kiss with Yoon Ji-won upon seeing the lilac tree in full bloom, and Yoon Ji-won’s face, slowly turning red with shock, were simultaneously captured in the ending. With Seok Ji-won’s victory in the lilac love bet, attention is focused on whether the two will begin dating.
