Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who was in charge of the script and direction of ‘Squid Game’, expressed strong confidence, emphasizing the differentiated fun of Season 2.

Season 2 of the Netflix original series ‘Squid Game’, which will be released on December 26, is the story of Ki-hoon (Lee Jung-jae), who returns to the game after vowing revenge, and the fierce confrontation between the Frontman (Lee Byung-hun) who greets him, as well as the real game starting again.

At the production conference held at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) Art Hall in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 9th, director Hwang Dong-hyuk said about Season 2, “At the end of Season 1, Ki-hoon was about to board a plane to LA to see his daughter, but turned around and said, ‘We are not words, we are people. We will find you.’. Following that ending, Season 2 centers around the conflict between Ki-hoon, who tries to find the mastermind behind the game and stop the game, and Frontman, who tries to stop Ki-hoon and bring about its collapse.

Regarding the question about the differences from Season 1, Director Hwang said, “First of all, the yes/no vote and the OX vote system asking whether to continue the game, which were briefly introduced in Season 1, are implemented in each game and are treated importantly.” “In particular, there has been talk about the importance of voting these days, so I think it would be more interesting if you think about it in relation to our current situation and reality. Also, new games will be introduced, so you will find it fun to watch new games.”

Director Hwang said that he was clear about what he wanted to say through Season 2, saying, “Korea and the whole world are becoming increasingly divided and fragmented. People are drawing lines, becoming hostile to each other, and conflicts are deepening. Conflicts are occurring within a society, and wars are occurring between countries. Even in ‘Squid Game’, you will feel the similarities between the real world and the world of ‘Squid Game’ as you see the divided and hostile people. I hope that you will have the opportunity to look into our society and the world again through our drama,” he said emphatically.
