Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who directed ‘Squid Game’, expressed his regret for the chaotic current situation and emphasized that President Yoon Seok-yeol should take responsibility and step down from his position.“

Season 2 of the Netflix original series ‘Squid Game’, which will be released on December 26, is a story about the fierce confrontation between Ki-hoon (Lee Jung-jae), who vows revenge and returns to participate in the game, and the Frontman (Lee Byung-hun) who greets him, as well as the real game that begins again.

At a production presentation held at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) Art Hall in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 9th, director Hwang Dong-hyuk honestly opened up and said, “My heart was heavy because ‘Squid Game’ was released in these times.”

He continued, “I couldn‘t believe (President Yoon Seok-yeol’s) martial law announcement and I couldn‘t sleep until dawn because of the situation. I watched while I was sleeping. I also watched the impeachment vote that took place the other day live. As a citizen, I am so angry that the entire nation cannot sleep because of such an absurd thing, has to take to the streets, and spend the end of the year feeling depressed. I hope that the person responsible (President Yoon Seok-yeol), whether he is impeached or resigns, will take responsibility and return a blessed end of the year to the people,” he said, making his own statement.

Finally, he said, “However, our country will be able to discover the absurd conflicts and upheavals that are happening all over the world in the drama,” adding, “I hope that people will think that watching ‘Squid Game’ is not something completely separate from this world.”
