The 182nd episode of tvN‘s ‘Naked World History’, which will air on the 17th, will expose Tokyo, a global city created by disaster.
According to the production team, Professor Jin-han Park of the Department of Japanese Regional Culture at Incheon National University will be the lecturer on that day. Professor Jin-han Park, who received his doctorate in history and culture from Kyoto University in Japan and is actively conducting research focusing on modern cities in East Asia, plans to tell the story of Tokyo’s development history, which overcame disasters and grew into a global city.
Professor Jin-han Park introduces Tokyo as “It is counted as one of the three greatest cities in the world along with New York and London, but it is also called a disaster city due to its constant disasters.” From the Edo period to the present, numerous disasters including fires and earthquakes have occurred, and the entire city has been devastated. This unfortunate history has been repeated.
Professor Park Jin-han also shares the secrets of how Tokyo was able to rise as an economic hub in Asia despite these disasters. The history of Tokyo‘s growth that turned crises into opportunities will be revealed, including efforts to go beyond simple urban reconstruction and transform into a completely new city, and the story of how economic development and unique Japanese culture were formed in the process.
Meanwhile, Sayuri from Japan and urban planner and designer Bang Seung-hwan will join us as our travel mates for the day. Sayuri will share her experience surrounding the Tokyo earthquake, and also share interesting episodes about Tokyo’s history and culture, drawing attention.
