Disney+ series ‘The Lighting Store’ Director Kim Hee-won talked about his evaluation of ‘The Lighting Store’.
On the afternoon of the 20th, Disney+ series ‘The Lighting Store’ Director Kim Hee-won met with Donga.com for an interview at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and talked about the work.
On this day, Kim Hee-won said about the most intense characters‘ stories in ‘The Lighting Store’, “Personally, it’s the mother and daughter Lee Jung-eun and Shin Eun-soo. I feel sad every time I watch them. Many people said that it‘s maternal love and that it’s unavoidable. Actually, I felt sad in every scene. It was the same when Seon-hye (played by Kim Min-ha) breaks the light bulb. I hadn‘t watched it at all since October, but when I watched it the day before yesterday, it had a different nuance. I wondered if someone could do that for love. I liked that scene too.”
Regarding the cookie video that was revealed after the end of the credits for ‘The Lighting Store’, Kim Hee-won said, “They gave me the script for the cookie video a week before filming ended. I didn’t know that either. I‘m the director of ‘The Lighting Store’, and I think they’ll take care of ‘Moving 2’ ‘Moving 3’.”
Kim Hee-won also said about his filmography as a director that started with ‘The Lighting Store’, “If it goes well and I get an offer to direct, I want to make it fun as an actor. However, as an artistic and entertainment actor, if it gives enjoyment to many people, I like both directing and acting,” he said humbly.
Kim Hee-won said that he was watching the reactions to ‘The Lighting Store’, and said, “I didn’t see (the reactions) for ‘Moving’, but I watch ‘The Lighting Store’ every day. ‘I’m sick of directing’ is definitely memorable,” making people laugh.
When the topic of ‘The Lighting Store’ Season 2 came up, he said, “(‘The Lighting Store’) has to do well. It has to do well for Season 2,” adding, “But (if we do Season 2), of course I will.”
Kim Hee-won said, “They say it’s going well, but nothing seems to have changed. I thought it would be fortunate if I didn’t feel embarrassed while doing this, but I’m glad that they’re having fun.”
Lastly, Kim Hee-won said, “There are people who say they‘re very confused. But I want to say, ’Just watch it with reference to this.‘ I was confused too. I asked the staff a lot. I also thought that the drama needed to hide some mysteries in order to go further. I tried adding explanatory cuts, but they weren’t fun. I thought that it would be more fun to make people think. I want to tell them to just watch it with a little more patience,” he added.
Meanwhile, ‘The Lighting Store’, which was first released on the 4th, depicts a story that unfolds when customers with suspicious secrets visit the ‘Lighting Store’, the only place that lights up a dark alley. It released four episodes on the 4th, and then released two episodes a week for the next two weeks, presenting all eight episodes.
It is the fifth work in the ‘Mystery Psychological Chill’ series by author Kang Full and is based on the webtoon of the same name ‘Lighting Store’, which has surpassed 150 million cumulative views.
