Jeon Hyo Sung Concerns About Breast Surgery → Dances While Tying Heels with Bra Straps (Bodymentary)
South Korea‘s representative female stars will be sharing their honest experiences related to their appearances through SBS’s ‘Bodymentary - Confession About Flesh’. Kim Wan Sun, Soyou, Jeon Hyo Sung, Han Seung Yeon, and Hwa Sa will each honestly share episodes from their lives where they were evaluated for their appearance and weight in different eras and stages, as well as the hidden side of the entertainment industry.
Hwa Sa recalled the past when she had to record and reveal her weight every day as a trainee, saying, “There was a weight chart on the wall, and it was reflected in the monthly evaluation.” She has been loved for her unique music and performances, and although she gained popularity at the peak of her solo song ‘Maria’, she unexpectedly confesses that that time was the most difficult. It was because of the pressure of the “unrealistic beauty standards” that were demanded of female celebrities.
Soyou revealed her experience of having her weight checked by the rookie development team every week during her trainee days. She said, “I admired the skinny and tall bodies of my Girls‘ Generation seniors”, and she controlled her food intake by drawing a line in the middle of each side dish she ate. She confessed that she had to wear heels to and from work for practice and had tense days, and that she eventually lost consciousness on the street due to the constant pressure that she had to lose weight in order to debut.
Jun Hyo-seong confessed that her body collapsed after repeatedly going on extreme diets and binge eating due to stress about her weight. She said that her obsession with her appearance was so severe that she even considered breast surgery to regain attention after her solo album, which she had worked hard to prepare, failed to even make it onto the ‘TOP 100’ in its first week of release. Also, because of her small body, she mentioned her experience of wearing 15cm high heels including the front heel, and tying her heels with her bra straps for fear of them coming off, which got her hurt while dancing.
Hwasa, Soyou, Jeon Hyo-seong, and Han Seung-yeon, who debuted as a member of Kara and captivated the entire Japanese archipelago, and Kim Wan-sun, who has been loved for 40 years as the ‘Korean Madonna’. The raw stories of living as a woman, an artist, and an idol in Korea will be revealed in ‘Bodymentary - Confession About ‘Flesh’.’ Airs Sunday, the 29th at 11 p.m.
