‘2024 SBS Entertainment Awards’ Cancelled, Recording Also NO… Cancellation or Postponement Unknown [Official]
The ‘2024 SBS Entertainment Awards’ will be canceled due to the aftermath of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident.
On the 30th, an SBS official told Donga.com that the live broadcast of the ‘2024 SBS Entertainment Awards’ scheduled for the 31st will not take place. There will also be no recorded broadcast. However, it is uncertain whether the awards ceremony will be canceled or postponed. The ‘2024 SBS Entertainment Awards’ was originally scheduled to take place at 8:40 PM.
On the 29th, the MBC ‘2024 Broadcast Entertainment Awards’ decided to cancel the awards ceremony after discussion. The ‘2024 MBC Drama Awards’ scheduled for the 30th will cancel the live broadcast and replace it with a recorded broadcast. The same goes for the ‘2024 MBC Music Festival’, scheduled for the 31st. The recording will proceed as scheduled, but the broadcast date has not been decided. The ‘2024 KBS Drama Awards’, which was scheduled to be broadcast alongside the ‘2024 SBS Entertainment Awards’ on the 31st, will also be canceled but will proceed with the recording.
At around 9:03 am on the 29th, a Jeju Air passenger plane attempted a body landing at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province after failing to lower its landing gear, skidding off the runway, crashing into the outer wall, and exploding. Of the 181 people on board the plane, including 179 South Korean nationals and 2 Thai nationals, 2 were rescued and the remaining 179 died.
As of 9:30 am on the 30th, 141 of the dead have been identified, and 38 are being identified through DNA analysis and fingerprints. The victims whose identities have been confirmed will be transported to the funeral home in consultation with their families. The government has designated a seven-day national mourning period from the day of the accident to January 4, 2025.
