On the 30th, MBC said, “We express our deepest condolences to the victims and their bereaved families of the passenger plane crash that occurred yesterday (29th)”, and announced, “The live broadcast of ‘2024 MBC Gayo Daejejeon’ scheduled for 8:40 PM on Tuesday, December 31st has been canceled and will be replaced with a recorded broadcast.”They stated, “In order to reflect the mourning atmosphere, the New Year‘s countdown event will be canceled and additional events will be scaled back. The event will be held with a focus on the artists’ stages that we have put our heart and soul into,“ they said, adding, ”We ask for your generous understanding, and we will announce the recording schedule separately at a later date.“ They also expressed their condolences, saying, ”I pray for the souls of the victims to rest in peace, and I once again express my deepest condolences to their bereaved families.“

On the 29th, the MBC ‘2024 Broadcast Entertainment Awards’ decided to cancel the awards ceremony after discussion. The ‘2024 MBC Drama Awards’, scheduled for the 30th, will be canceled as a live broadcast and replaced with a recorded broadcast. The ‘2024 KBS Drama Awards’, scheduled to be broadcast on the 31st, will also be canceled but will be held as a recorded event. The ‘2024 SBS Entertainment Awards’ has canceled both the live broadcast and recording, and it is undetermined whether to postpone or cancel the awards ceremony.

Meanwhile, at approximately 9:03 am on the 29th, a Jeju Air passenger plane attempted a body landing at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province after failing to lower its landing gear, skidding off the runway, crashing into an exterior wall, and exploding. Of the 181 people on board the plane, including 179 South Koreans and 2 Thais, 2 were rescued and the remaining 179 died.

As of 2:30 pm on the 30th, 146 of the dead have been identified, and 33 are being identified through DNA analysis and fingerprinting. The identified victims will be transported to a funeral home in consultation with their bereaved families. The government designated a seven-day national mourning period from the day of the accident to January 4, 2025.
