The Netflix series ‘Squid Game 2’, which is receiving worldwide attention, is once again suffering from illegal viewing in China.

On the Chinese content review site Douban, a review screen for ‘Squid Game 2’ was created before its release, and currently, over 60,000 reviews are left.

In response, Professor Seo Kyung-deok of Sungshin Women‘s University pointed out, “It was like that when ‘Squid Game 1’ was released, and now in China, ‘thief viewing’ has become a daily occurrence,” and “It’s even more shocking that they don‘t feel any shame.”

In particular, Professor Seo criticized, “It’s a big problem that up until now, Chinese people have been using the portrait rights of Hallyu stars who appeared in K-content at will and making and selling counterfeit products to make money for themselves,” and said, “From now on, It is time for the Chinese authorities to step forward,” he emphasized.

Earlier, during the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Chinese authorities carried out strict crackdowns on their own citizens in order to protect intellectual property rights and prevent illegal distribution of the Olympic mascot ‘Bingdundun’.

Professor Seo said, “It’s not that the Chinese authorities are unaware of this. It is true that they have turned a blind eye to ‘ille viewing’ of K-content up until now despite knowing it,” adding, “The Chinese authorities need to know how to respect other countries’ content first and must crack down on illegal activities by their own citizens.”
