Global ‘Top Tier’ BLACKPINK member Jisoo will meet global fans through the new drama ‘Newtopia’. Unlike other BLACKPINK members such as Rosé, Jennie, and Lisa who each hit the global stage with solo songs last year, Jisoo is determined to target living rooms around the world through the Coupang Play original drama ‘Newtopia’.

○Acting career begins in earnestLast year, the four members of BLACKPINK agreed with YG Entertainment to only continue team activities and not to sign additional contracts for individual activities, and have each found new homes and begun full-fledged individual activities. Jennie and Lisa showed off their solo power by releasing new songs like ‘Mantra’ and ‘Rockstar’, respectively, and Rosé caused a global syndrome with ‘Apartment’, which she sang with pop star Bruno Mars.
Unlike the other members, Jisoo has been focusing on acting, making fans anxious by immersing herself in filming new dramas and movies. She will finally be releasing ‘Newtopia’, which she stars in, on February 7th. This is the first leading role since establishing the one-person agency ‘Bliss’, and the second drama following the 2021 JTBC drama ‘Snowdrop’.
In particular, although this work is a Coupang Play original, a domestic OTT (online video service), it is expected to attract the attention of fans around the world as it is released in over 240 countries and regions through the global OTT Prime Video due to Jisoo‘s global popularity.
Jisoo previously said that she was so happy to see the global success of the Blackpink members with their solo songs, and emphasized, “I hope the results will be good enough for the members, who are like family, to be proud.”

○From action to comedy... Attempt at Transformation
‘Newtopia’, which combines zombie and romantic comedy and is advertised as a ‘zombie-com’ genre, tells the story of soldier Jae-yoon (Park Jung-min) and his girlfriend Yeong-ju (Jisoo) running towards each other through downtown Seoul that has been attacked by zombies.
In the drama, Jisoo plays the role of Yeong-ju, a ‘bear god’ who waits for her boyfriend Jae-yoon, who has become a late-blooming soldier. Although they decided to break up due to realistic problems, she is a bold character who reaffirms her feelings for Jae-yoon after the zombie virus outbreak and fearlessly ‘goes straight ahead’ to meet him.
Jisoo, who has digested everything from comedy to action for this production, said, “It’s a unique zombie film with many colorful incidents, not just the zombie situation,” and “Above all, Yeong-ju is an independent and charming character who makes her own choices and grows.” He said, “I went to action school for the first time for this work.”
Director Yoon Sung-hyun praised Ji-soo’s outstanding sense of humor, saying, “Yeong-ju is a character that requires humor, eccentricity, and wit. There is no actor who can portray Yeong-ju better than Ji-soo.”
