In the tvN STORY ‘An Unusual History Meal’, we meet the dining table of Lee Seong-gye, the protagonist of the founding of the Joseon Dynasty.
In the 5th episode of ‘An Unusual History Meal’, which will air on the 9th, we go on a time-slip culinary journey to the era of Lee Seong-gye, who went from being a frontier general of the Goryeo Dynasty to becoming the first king of Joseon, Taejo. Actors Cha Joo-young and Lee Hyun-wook, who played ‘Queen Won-gyeong’ and ‘Yi Bang-won’, respectively, in the tvN·Tving original drama ‘Won-gyeong’, will appear as special guests and taste a meal of history from the late Goryeo and early Joseon periods with ‘history communicator’ Choi Tae-sung, actor Ryu Soo-young, and actress Yura.
According to the production team, Choi Tae-sung will first explain in detail the process by which Lee Seong-gye, who was at the center of the storm during the turbulent times at the end of Goryeo, founded the new nation Joseon. This is a story about how Yi Seong-gye opened a new era with Jeong Do-jeon, Jeong Mong-ju, and others at the end of the Goryeo Dynasty, when the country was in decline due to not only foreign invasion but also extreme corruption. It also immerses the audience in the scene by mentioning the various reform policies of Yi Seong-gye as he ascended to the throne, the conflict between Yi Seong-gye and his son Yi Bang-won, and anecdotes related to Yi Bang-won‘s political partner, Queen Wongyeong.
In addition, a Goryeo cuisine master with 25 years of experience will present a table setting between Goryeo and Joseon. Amidst the chaotic political situation at the end of the Goryeo Dynasty, the people’s table was made with anger toward Lee Seong-gye, and the table that allows a glimpse into the people‘s sentiments after Lee Seong-gye’s ascension to the throne is raising expectations, and another aspect of history that can be seen through food is said to have captured the attention of time travelers. In particular, Cha Joo-young and Lee Hyun-wook empathize with Lee Seong-gye‘s emotions while eating food, and they also tell a variety of anecdotes surrounding Lee Seong-gye, Lee Bang-won, and Queen Wongyeong, raising curiosity.
‘An Unusual Meal of History’ airs every Thursday at 8 p.m.
