Actor Park Jin-young will be meeting viewers for the first time since his military service through Channel A‘s new weekend drama ‘The Witch’.
Channel A’s new weekend drama ‘The Witch’ (directed by Kim Tae-kyun, written by Jo Yoo-jin) is a mystery romance between ‘Dong-jin’, a man who tries to break the laws of misfortune surrounding women called witches, and ‘Mi-jeong’, a woman who has become the seed of tragedy and has cut herself off from the world, and who end up saving each other through a journey that they do not give up on.
The Witch is a dramatization of the webtoon of the same name by Kang Full, the popular webtoon writer of ‘Moving’, ‘Lighting Store’, and ‘Fool’. Director Kim Tae-kyun, who displayed his dense directing skills in the movie ‘Dark Figure of Crime’, took on the directing role. Director Kim Tae-gyun‘s delicate and sensuous interpretation combined with writer Kang Full’s unique worldview is expected to create a highly complete work.
In ‘The Witch’, Park Jin-young plays the role of ‘Dong-jin’, a data miner who receives the highest treatment in the industry. Behind Dong-jin‘s job of changing data into the desired form, analyzing it, and mining the necessary information is the woman he loves, ‘Mi-jung’ (played by Noh Jeong-eui). Mi-jung, who is followed by misfortune and death, is called a ‘Witch’ and has cut herself off from the world. Dong-jin, who graduated from the Department of Statistics and works to find the truth in big data, will prove that Mi-jung, whom he meets by chance after a long time, is not a ‘Witch’, and will find a factual law to help her come out into the world.
In the still cuts released today (14th), you can catch a glimpse of Park Jin-young’s perfect transformation into the science-type elite Dong-jin. Even at the time of casting, he already garnered attention for his high synchronization with the original webtoon character.
Dong-jin is 100% rational, seeing only the facts in the data without any emotions, and saying that when snow melts, it becomes H2O (water). However, he is also a man with deep emotions who begins a dangerous journey to find out the truth surrounding the law of misfortune by digging into statistics until his death in order to tell the woman he loves, “You are not a witch.”
The image conveyed through Park Jin-young’s perfect acting, filled with eyes soaked in sorrow even within his intellectual aura, perfectly shows Dong-jin’s complex character.
Director Kim Tae-kyun, who was in charge of directing, said about Park Jin-young, “His stable tone and eyes are very similar to ‘Dong-jin.’ The character’s innocence and sincerity are also reflected in the actor,” expressing his satisfaction with the high synchronization with the character.
The production team also said, “The Witch” is a work that condenses the acting skills of Park Jin-young, who has shown his acting skills regardless of genre in various works. He confidently said, “He takes on a role that is never easy to express, and smoothly goes back and forth between a rational side that pursues only the truth and a heartbreaking emotional love that is worth risking one’s life,” and added, “Please look forward to how Dong-jin will save Mi-jeong, who is called the ‘witch,’ and how actor Park Jin-young will present the Kang Full universe, which depicts a great love of salvation within a cold and eerie mystery, to the viewers.”
Channel A’s new weekend drama, ‘The Witch,’ which is taking over the baton from the box office hit ‘Check In Hanyang,’ will first air on Saturday, February 15 at 9:10 p.m. and will meet viewers around the world through its simultaneous broadcast through global investment distribution.
