Yoo Yeon-seok realized that the blackmailer was Chae Soo-bin.
In episode 5 of MBC‘s Friday-Saturday drama ‘The Phone Call You’re Calling Now’ (planned by Kwon Sung-chang/ directed by Park Sang-woo, Wi Deuk-gyu/ written by Kim Ji-woon/ produced by Bon Factory, Baram Pictures) that aired on the 13th, the surprise kiss between the show window couple Baek Sa-eon (played by Yoo Yeon-seok) and Hong Hee-joo (played by Chae Soo-bin) kept viewers up at night.
The viewership ratings for episode 5 were 5.9% nationwide and 5.3% in the metropolitan area (provided by Nielsen Korea, based on households). In particular, the scene where Sa-eon is contemplating how to reply to Hee-joo‘s heart emoticon soared to a peak viewership rating of 6.3%, leaving a strong impact.
In the previous episode, Sa-eon ran straight to Hee-joo, who was precariously standing on the railing, and checked on her safety. However, Sa-eon began to suspect Hee-joo without realizing it when she learned from Park Do-jae (Choi Woo-jin) that the blackmailer was at the hotel where the ‘Cheongwoon Ilbo’ event was held. After the event, Sa-eon and Hee-joo, who returned home, couldn’t sleep at night for their own reasons. Hee-joo was comforted and encouraged by Sa-eon‘s phone call, but Sa-eon expressed strong resentment toward his wife who had kept her voice a secret for 20 years despite being able to speak.
Meanwhile, Hee-joo passed the final interview for the sign language interpreter position at the presidential office. Wanting to be the first to tell her husband the good news, Hee-joo accidentally sent Sa-eon a heart emoticon, making him laugh. At that time, Sa-eon, who was in a meeting, was flustered by Hee-joo’s unexpected reaction, but planned a workshop with the sign language interpreters.
Sa-eon, who gave Hee-joo clothes as an excuse for passing the sign language interpreter exam, couldn‘t take his eyes off Hee-joo’s beautiful appearance. However, the two people‘s date, which had become even closer, was watched by Hee-joo’s older sister Hong In-ah (played by Han Jae-yi), which heightened the sense of anxiety.
Jang Sang-woo (played by Heo Nam-joon) and Na Yu-ri (played by Jang Gyu-ri), who had gone on a preliminary inspection of the broadcast program, arranged a congratulatory event for Hee-joo, who was with Hee-joo, and Sa-eon accompanied them to their meeting, where they had a tense standoff with Sang-woo.
Hee-joo, who could not stand watching the war of nerves between the two men, got a call from In-ah asking to meet. Hee-joo, overcome by inexplicable emotions, called Sa-eon again at 10 p.m. using a threatening phone. At that time, Sa-eon was walking around the streets looking for his wife, and they continued a tense conversation while being hidden from each other‘s sight. At that moment, a mysterious vehicle crashed into Sa-eon, and Hee-joo, who witnessed this, shouted, “White Sa-eon!” and threw herself into the room to save her husband. Sa-eon said to Hee-joo, who had begun to speak, “I want to hear it again. He comforted his wife, saying, “Your voice,” which moved viewers.
On the other hand, the fact that the person who tried to hit Sa-eon with a car was the kidnapper (played by Park Jae-yoon) was revealed, heightening the tension. The kidnapper, who called Hee-joo again, said, “I want Baek Sa-eon to be ruined. I’m the one who knows Baek Sa-eon the best in the world,” pressuring her, drawing attention to the unusual relationship between Sa-eon and the kidnapper.
On Hee-joo’s first day at work in the spokesperson’s office, Sa-eon began learning sign language from Hee-joo. The sight of the two communicating through sign language was heartwarming. However, during a company dinner, Sa-eon learned new information that the blackmailer was a woman. He secretly instructed Do-jae to compare the blackmailer’s phone call audio file with Hee-joo’s voice recorded on the black box.
At the end of the broadcast, Hee-joo took a drunken Sa-eon home, and the two collapsed in front of the door and kissed, causing excitement in the living room theater. Here, the identity of the blackmailer is revealed to be Hee-joo through Do-jae’s text message that the voice file on Sa-eon‘s phone matches the voice of the blackmailer, making viewers eagerly await the next story.
