KBS2‘s new Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Suspicious Woman’ Director Park Yong-soon and writer Heo Seung-min have raised expectations for the drama.
KBS 2TV’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Suspicious Woman’ (directed by Park Yong-soon/written by Heo Seung-min), scheduled to premiere on the 18th (Wednesday), is a romantic music growth drama about Oh Mal-soon, a grandmother in her seventies who suddenly turns into a twenty-year-old Oh Du-ri and enjoys her shining heyday as she challenges herself to become a singer once again to fulfill the dream she couldn‘t fulfill when she was younger. The drama ‘Suspicious Woman’, a remake of the movie of the same name, is garnering a lot of attention from potential viewers for its expanded characters and storyline compared to the original.
With the first broadcast just three days away, director Park Yong-soon confessed, “I’ve always wanted to do a human drama, a family drama. Personally, if I could, I wanted to give a gift to my parents through the drama.” He also added, “This drama is also a letter of reflection to the sorry family. I wanted to deal with issues between generations and communication between family members, which are both easy and difficult, from the conflict between mother and daughter in a narrow sense.”
Here, writer Heo Seung-min talked about the differences from the movie, saying, “First of all, it seems like Oduri is a real woman, not a grandmother pretending to be a young lady. Since over 8 million people have already seen the movie in theaters, I thought that if I were to make it into a drama, the reason should be clear.” He said, “Rather than wanting to go beyond the movie, I want to tell the viewers a new bundle of stories that go beyond the emotion and fun of the movie. In fact, because of my not-so-small greed, I had a lot of worries and trial and error, but I think I overcame them well with Director Park Yong-soon,” he said, raising expectations for the upcoming drama.
In addition, Director Park, who thought a lot about emotional changes to suit the current times in terms of directing as 10 years have passed, said, “If I could go back to my youth again, I would actively express the hopes of the elderly, more honest dream realization and love stories, and the beautiful love that I face right away as I become younger.” Writer Heo said, “As time has passed, I tried to emphasize the conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law and the grandmotherly aspect that was the kick point of the movie, and since most of the settings that were taken have changed a lot now, I avoided them and found my own unique fun. I tried to boldly break away from settings that could make viewers uncomfortable,” adding to the sincerity of the drama.
Meanwhile, Writer Heo chose Oh Mal-soon as the character she is most fond of. For that reason, he said, ”Malsoon, who wears the mask of Oduri and becomes very lovable, has a charm that can only be found in this drama. She is a character who personally shows that you can be lovable, shy, and cute even when you‘re old. I hope that the viewers will feel that you can communicate with young people even when you’re old and that you can be powerful and edgy as much as you want while watching Malsoon and her charm.“
Director Park then said about the atmosphere on set, ”I‘m so grateful that such kind and good actors and staff gathered together. The content of the drama itself is bright and cheerful, so the filming site was also very enjoyable. I hope that this energy will be well-conveyed to the viewers. From the first filming to the last, the road to the set was always exciting,” he said, expressing his affection for the work.
Lastly, Director Park said, “I hope that viewers will laugh heartily and feel healed without thinking much after watching ‘Miss Granny’ in this difficult world,” and Writer Heo said, “Many people have seen the previous movie, so please watch it without any preconceptions or thoughts that the story is obvious. Also, I hope that you will enjoy the sweet and salty taste of the drama ‘Miss Granny’, which is different from other genre works with strong personalities,” giving his final farewell.
KBS 2TV’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Miss Granny’ is scheduled to premiere on the 18th (Wednesday) at 9:50 p.m.
