MBC announced on the 30th, “We express our deepest condolences to the victims and their families of the plane crash that occurred on the 29th. “To share our condolences with the nation who is deeply saddened by this accident, the live broadcast of the ‘2024 MBC Drama Awards’ scheduled to be held today, Monday, December 30th at 8:40 PM has been canceled and will be replaced with a recorded broadcast.

At approximately 9:03 am on the 29th, a Jeju Air passenger plane from Bangkok, Thailand crashed and exploded at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province. There were 181 people on board the plane, including 179 South Korean nationals and 2 Thai nationals. 179 people died, excluding the 2 who were rescued. The government designated a seven-day period from today until January 4th of next year as a national mourning period in relation to the Jeju Air accident.
