Kim Jae-young jokes, “I want to do a romantic comedy. Is it because of Byun Woo-seok‘s influence? Of course.” [DA: Interview ②]

Actor Kim Jae-young revealed his thirst for bright characters and works.

In an interview for the finale of the SBS drama ‘Judge from Hell’, held at a cafe in Hakdong-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 5th, Kim Jae-young said that his synchronization with his character Han Da-on was 70-80%. He confessed, “I usually like to live brightly, I like talking, and I’m emotional. I have a lot in common with Han Da-on. It was a good opportunity to break away from my existing image as a strong man and show my true self.”

‘Judge from Hell’ is a fantasy drama about Kang Bit-na, a demon who enters the body of a judge, meeting the humane and passionate detective Han Da-on in a hellish reality and being reborn as a true judge by punishing criminals. Kim Jae-young plays Han Da-on, a detective in the Violent Crimes Unit 2 of Nobong Police Station and the sole survivor of the serial killer J case.

Kim Jae-young confidently emphasized that he has a “puppy-like charm.” He said, “I think I’ve played a lot of characters with a lot of pain and darkness in my works,” and “I wanted to try a character that could show my original personality. In that sense, I liked that Han Da-on also had a humorous side. My close friend Joo Woo-jae also said, “You should do something like that!””

Kim Jae-young mentioned “romantic comedy” several times as a genre he wants to do. When asked if he was inspired by his close friend, model-turned-actor Byun Woo-seok, who gained huge popularity with “Seon-jae’s Piggyback Ride,” he admitted it and joked, “Of course,” making everyone laugh. He added, “I was really happy when Woo-seok did well. In the past, I used to be jealous and envious of model-turned-actors when they were doing well, but I don‘t feel that way anymore. I’m so happy that Woo-seok is doing well,“ he said.

Kim Jae-young said of himself, ”There are differences between my appearance and my inner self, so I have many soft parts. I think I can play many roles because I can change. I can play a villain well, and I think I‘m cute when I smile,“ and expressed his hopes by saying, ”I think it would be difficult for a conglomerate or a top star. I can’t play Seon-jae. I want to try an ordinary role where my profession isn‘t really shown. I also want to try something that’s really messed up.“ He continued, ”It‘s hard when I do dark projects because I feel like I become darker. I think I get really immersed in a project. He added, “It was also hard to get out of ’Someone Who Resembles You‘ with Go Hyun-jung.”

Meanwhile, the final episode of ’Judge from Hell‘, which aired on the 2nd, depicted an open ending to the romance between Kang Bit-na and Han Da-on along with the thrilling cider of punishing human trash who deserve to die and sending them to hell. ’Judge from Hell‘, which started with a viewership rating of 6.8% for the first episode, ended on a high note with a final viewership rating of 11.9% (provided by Nielsen Korea).
