A person who feels wronged by her stepmother visits ‘Ask Anything’.
On the 292nd episode of KBS JOY ‘Ask Anything’, which airs tonight (the 18th) at 8:30 PM, a person in his 50s who runs a convenience store will appear.
She begins her story by saying that she feels so wronged and resentful because she was beaten so badly by her stepmother that she doesn‘t know how to resolve her feelings.
The person who lived with her stepmother since her second year of elementary school due to her parents’ divorce and her father‘s remarriage. She says that her stepmother started beating her two years later and she continued to be beaten badly until her second year of middle school.
The scars from the beatings were still vivid even after 40 years, and she said she was so scared and terrified that she couldn’t even think about rebelling. Here, Lee Soo-geun asks, “Didn‘t you tell your father?” and he says that his stepmother told him that she would kill him if he told his father, so he couldn’t tell him.
The stepmother then surprises Lee Soo-geun and Seo Jang-hoon by telling them that the victim was sent to the Brothers Welfare Center.
The ‘Brothers Welfare Center’ is recorded as the worst site of human rights abuse in the history of the Republic of Korea, where innocent citizens were kidnapped in Busan for 12 years from 1975 to 1987, and then imprisoned in the welfare center, where they committed various crimes such as forced labor, beatings, sexual assault, and murder.
The victim didn‘t go to school to avoid his biological mother who came to visit him, and his stepmother reported him as a thief and sent him to the welfare center because he hid and tried to sleep to avoid his stepmother’s assault.
He mentions that his life at the Brothers Welfare Center was horrible, and that it was an experience so unbelievable that he escaped alive. He recalls that there were people who made extreme choices, people who died from being beaten, and many who escaped but wandered through the mountains and did bad things.
When Seo Jang-hoon was asked, “At what age did you escape from the welfare center?”, he said that he had been locked up there for a whopping 6 years until it was closed, and when he asked if his father had come looking for him, he said that he had been recorded as missing and had removed the person from the family register.
Seo Jang-hoon said, “You should receive compensation for the unjust suffering,” and advised, “Quickly restore your family register.”
In addition, there was a story about a grandmother who raised him when he was young and was worried about getting a job at a good company, and the concerns of famous actors who have quietly walked the path of acting for 30 years.
